Hi Dave,

Not sure if it is the right forum but will ask the question here. Is there a pattern for deploying non-web Spring batch-Integration applications? I am kind of struggling to get my app (which has a inbound file adapter polling for a file, once a file received the service activator will launch a spring batch job etc).

I was very happy when I was able to design/develop the solution (as per our complex requirements within 3 days) and run it a s java application successfully.

But now we are looking at using Spring DM server to deploy our Spring Batch-Integration apps and this is where the trouble started ....we were able to create a jar file with respective manifest data and whenever we try to deploy to Spring DM server 2.0 we get quite a lot of class not found errors you fix one of them then another shows up ....

Thanks!

Yeah, the validation rules got stricter since I first did the samples.

Ordering of deployment is also a tooling issue - it broke in beta9 I think. Christian says he's fixed it but I haven't seen the result yet.

Using a bundle to configure the job and the data is out of fashion now (it was just an idea to get a demo working really). I have a more mature version that uses a JobRegistry as a shared service and allows you to fire off jobs from any installed bundle that pulishes a JobFactory.

Just a quick note on this, I had to add

Bundle-ManifestVersion: 2

to all the manifests to stop Eclipse whingeing.

Also on the idea of shipping bundles with data in, sounds quite elegant but not sure if it would be a normal use case.

Cheers, nice tutorial, S2AP and OSGI is very neat I must say.

Hi

Running it on Beta 9 with the lastest STS plugin I did get some whinges in the manifests that were fixed by adding in:

Bundle-ManifestVersion: 2

It would be good too to cover how to start up bundles in a specifc order, as when I was bouncing the server I sometimes got bundles wanting a datasource before it was started.

On the subject of deploying a data with the data to be run within the bundle, although this is interesting and quite elegant, in the real world I think this is unlikely to happen. My experience on big batch processing is that data tends to turn up in big flat files that would be accessed from the bundle, not added to it.

Time to go home.

Thanks, it turned out some bundles weren't initilizing due to some missing dependencies on S2AP. All sorted and all blindingly obvious now :-)

Hi Paul,

Q: "Is this dragging and dropping an exported Jar of the project ?"

A: No you should be able to drag the project itself. If you can't then make sure it has the Target platform set to the S2AP instance in your Servers view (in the project properties).

Q: "And exactly how do I remove the bundle?"

A: It really should be as simple as described once the bundle is deployed it shows up in the server (the same as any other WTP server behaves, e.g. if you use the Tomcat instance that comes with STS to launch a web app).
