From my few personal experiments with OSGi, before Spring DM, I have found that while the whole runtime architecture and its features seem exciting, building server side applications with the OSGi programming model in practice was cumbersome. OSGi has been getting more and more prominent in Spring's roadmap over the last two years, and Rod's slides from the JAX conference last week made it pretty clear (reading between the lines) that the right answer to OSGi/Web/Spring integration should really come from the Spring team.
