		<description>I know this is a little late - but you may want to look at SXC (http://sxc.codehaus.org) which has support for compiling (simple) xpath expressions. This can give up to a 100x performance boost in my limited testing. Hopefully we'll expand the support for more complex expressions soon, but I thought I'd throw it out there.</description>
